Introduction
Terminology and language go hand in hand. This section is our online reference library of positive and negative, historical and current, words, terms or phrases that are used in relation to the international African community.
Terminology is an important part of what we call 'African self-determination’ and can be described as a reference dictionary for us and by us. The tendency to define and create words, describing African British and African Diasporic communities, that are overtly or covertly racist and sexist, and the absorption of these prescripted definitions into every day life is the reason Terminology is so integral to the internal and external perception of African people internationally.
This section aims challenge the validity of existing words and phrases whilst also defining us on our terms, in our own words. In order to maintain this section of the site, we require the assistance of the community. We encourage you to submit words and definitions for inclusion, or to challenge and make suggestions about current entries.
