[adj] pertaining to someone of African ancestry; "I have a coloured friend"; "black people don't like to be called coloured"

Coconut


[n] Informal label describing a person who rejects African identity, family and community values whilst aspiring to individualism and money. Refers to the phrase ‘brown on the outside, white on the inside’.

Synonyms: Bounty, Sell Out


Coon

An offensive label describing an African or an African who performs and reinforces racial stereotypes typically through entertainment. eg. "He was cooning it up on television"


Civilised/Civilisation

A term used to carry racist overtones derived from a colonialist perception of the world. Most often associated with social Darwinist thought and is full of implicit value judgements and ignorance of the history of the non-industrialised world.


Colour caste system

A term used to describe the process of discrimination where the lighter coloured/ skinned a person is, the higher 'value' is placed upon that person.

Cultural Disinheritance Syndrome (CDS)


Is used to define a condition where the lack of historical and cultural background causes an individual to have low self esteem due to their inability to resolve issues of self-identity. Ultimately those suffering from this condition reject the principles of self determination, becoming overly susceptible to external stimuli and allowing themselves to be defined by others.
