Simon Hoggart

Simon Hoggart’s diary is usually a source of much satirical fun. Yet on Saturday 11 June, Hoggart went a little too far with his header ‘Oust Mugabe’ and his accompanying patronising commentary. Liking the situation to Iraq and Saddam Hussein he rambled on about how a few British battalions could ‘hack it’ in Zuimbabwe by forcibly clearing the Zanu-PF party out and holding ‘free’ elections (i.e. install the MDC) within three months. His insipid closing comments on ‘moaning about imperialism from… South Africa’ where he asserted no-one in Africa would do anything about it was breathtaking in its ignorant arrogance.

Recommendations:

Bremner, Bird and Fortune you are not. Racism no matter how thinly veiled is not funny.
