The Press Complaints Commission is an independent body which deals with complaints from members of the public about the editorial content of newspapers and magazines. Independent Police Complaints Commission

The IPPC remit is to ensure people's complaints against the police are properly investigated, using our new legal powers to intervene and investigate. They Intend to increase public confidence in the police by demonstrating their independence and by securing the integrity and accountability of the complaints system.

They state they will;

  • Independently investigate, manage or supervise police investigations of complaints and allegations of misconduct.
  • Oversee the operation of the police complaints system as their 'guardianship' role.
  • Work with others to learn and disseminate the lessons from the complaints system to improve the way they are handled.
