In July 2002, her 22-year-old son, Damian, who was shot outside Brown's nightclub in Holborn, central London. As a result Mrs Cope came to prominence as an "anti gun crime campaigner".
This was the second piece of awfully bad luck for Mrs Cope.
In February 1998 another of Mrs Cope's sons, Sean, was stabbed to death outside her home in Walworth, south London.
