... no, it's not being made up - you can read it here ...

In July 2002, her 22-year-old son, Damian, who was shot outside Brown's nightclub in Holborn, central London. As a result Mrs Cope came to prominence as an "anti gun crime campaigner".

This was the second piece of awfully bad luck for Mrs Cope.

In February 1998 another of Mrs Cope's sons, Sean, was stabbed to death outside her home in Walworth, south London.

"Lucy also played a key part in organising the gun amnesty that resulted in thousands of weapons being handed in to police. She continues to work closely with Operation Trident - the Metropolitan specialist police operation set up in 1998 to tackle black-on-black violence.

Lucy is now one of the most responsible and widely respected public campaigners against gun crime in the country. She was awarded the EMMA for Public Figure of the Year in 2003."

With her friends in high places, she could call on many to come and give her a character reference.

Has the national press picked up on this, because I can't find this story anywhere?

I saw her on TV the other day, commenting about the recent murders in Peckham. She didn't mention her alleged dalliances with guns! wink.gif

On 7 February 2007, the £150,000 p.a. Chairman of Operation Trident tells the BBC that Operation Trident is a "success" (listen for yourself

On 10 February 2007, the BBC tells us:

"The number of shootings and murders involving people aged under 20 in London's black community, has more than doubled in the past four years."
(Read it here)

Who's telling the truth?

"... Operation Trident was launched in 2000 to reduce gun crime in London's black community."

I have issues with someone naming their organisation 'Mothers Against Guns'. I have issues with the fact that Lucy Cope can be wheeled out as a spokesperson for issues that predominantly affect African people.

I remember hearing her on the radio a few years back saying words to the effect that Mothers are more important than Fathers. Her exact words were "You only have one Mother" - Last time I checked, I only had one Father too. Based on the occasions I have heard her talk, I think it is clear that she has serious issues with Brothas.

Her "issues" currently appear to include appearing at Tower Bridge Magistrates' Court to face charges of kidnap, false imprisonment, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

An interesting choice of "community leader" and" role model" .
