Lest We Forget ... this sick devil planted a nail bomb in the middle of Brixton market on a busy Saturday afternoon ...
Copeland, from Cove, Hampshire, launched his campaign after constructing bombs from instructions downloaded from anarchist publications on the internet and with materials bought from DIY stores and high street shops. While working as an engineer on the Jubilee line Tube project and living in a series of bedsits, he perfected the bomb-making techniques that he would later use to rock the capital over 14 days and terrify minority communities. After he was arrested he told police he had been planning to bomb Southall in west London, which has a large Asian population, the following week. On his arrest, Copeland immediately claimed responsibility for all 3 nail bombs that he had planted, stating that he had selected his targets for political reasons. Describing himself as a Nazi, Copeland said that his aim was to cause murder, mayhem, chaos and damage and set off a racial war.
After the nail bomb exploded in Brixton, the Daily Mail claimed that it might have been the work of "Jamaican Yardies".
plenty to smile about ...

The bomb went off close to an Iceland store - security guard Aiah Menjor was evacuating the area when the bomb went off

Two years ago, The Daily Mirror reported that a black inmate had attempted to assassinate Copeland in Broadmoor.

... lest we forget ...
Give thanks for the timely reminder.
A recent report reveals that as well as monitoring the state for its abuses, we also need to be ever vigilant over the common thug manipulated by government propoganda about immigration and now harbouring an axe to grind;
The document contains an exhaustive list of convictions of extremists with links to right-wing organisations and profiles of key right-wing “lone-wolves” who turned out to be nothing of the sort.
The work of Gerry Gable and his anti-fascist organisation Searchlight has never been fashionable, but his tireless monitoring and exposure of the extreme-right has acted as an important check on violent racism over four decades.
His latest report, “Lone Wolves: Myth or Reality?”, was commissioned by John Denham when he was Communities Secretaries and it is an extraordinarily detailed examination of the history of right-wing extremist violence.
His conclusion is that it may be convenient for the police and the media to think of right-wing terrorists as “lone wolves”, but the reality is that they almost always have connections with organized fascist activity.
The work emerged out of an examination of the nail bomber David Copeland who attacked gay, black and Asian targets in Soho, Brixton and Brick Lane in 1999. Copeland was described as a crazed maverick, a classic “lone wolf”.
This is depressing and sometimes terrifying stuff. But it is also an important warning. One appendix, for example, contains an investigation into Patriots of the White european Resistance (POWER) a viciously anti-Semitic skinhead organisation that attracts more than 200 people to its internet forum. The report provides useful pen-portraits of some of these repellent people. Lone Wolves? Hardly. They may be sad, mentally unstable racists, but the internet means they also have a community.
