About Asista
Asista will feature articles, resources
and current national and international news relating to
African British Women. Essentially, it is dedicated to assisting
the progression of African Women by;
- Exposing and challenging sexism
and misogyny
- Educating women about their rights
- Empowering them through knowledge
of their culture, history and the Self
- Encouraging a familial, local and
international unity amongst Sistas
African women in the Diaspora
not only face racism in a society that constantly seeks
to commodify and dehumanise African cultures, but also the
equally challenging battle against sexism and misogyny -
often perpetrated by those who fear and despise the power
of African women in unity with each other and their brothas.
Unfortunately, some brothas
consciously or subconsciously can contribute to the inherent
sexism by reinforcing western values of womanhood and identity.
Hence, it is crucial that African men are
regular visitors and contributors to Asista
and acknowledge that the fight against sexism should not
be fought exclusively by women.
Sistas and Brothas
should recognise and actively challenge the covert brainwashing
and negative reinforcement of identity that maintains the
African woman’s status as the underdog of
Western Society.
