INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT
The ways in which you can support Ligali are flexible
and often based on your personal circumstances.
Active Supporter (AS)
This would require you to submit your details (name, contact
number and email address) via our Supporter Form, which
we will then enter into our internal database where your
information will be stored securely.
Our Supporter Form also requires you
to list your particular areas of interest and a summary
of the ways in which you can support the organisation.
The main difference between an active supporter and a
‘occasional supporter’ is that we are permitted
to contact you (during reasonable times and at a reasonable
level) should we require your advice or assistance on
a particular matter. You can clearly state the terms,
level and means of contact on the Active Supporter Form.
What can I do?
Below are examples of the ways in which some of our current
Active Supporters assist the organisation;
- Regularly (usually
weekly) contacting us with information about news stories,
websites, organisations, events and programmes that relate
to our community.
- Provide feedback on our website and newsletters.
- Promoting our events and our work amongst friends, family,
work colleagues and other organisations.
- Conducting research on our behalf
- Writing letters of complaint to the relevant bodies
(e.g. Broadcasters, CRE etc)
- Attending our protests and events
- Keeping us informed of recent developments in the areas
we work in.
- Providing legal advice.
- Undertaking specific projects or initiatives with or
for us.
- Inviting Ligali representatives to participate as panel
members and speakers in various community forums.
Occasional Supporter (OS)
As an Occasional Supporter (OS) you do not have to provide
us with any of your contact details. Occasional Supporters
tend to support us by undertaking some of the tasks mentioned
above for the Active Supporter but to a much lesser degree.
ORGANISATIONAL SUPPORT
It is a core part of our ethos that we should actively
encourage interaction and interdependency of African organisations,
regardless of their remit. It is particularly important
that organisations with different emphasises work together
to foster greater African unity and the pooling of resources.
For example, mentoring organisations could work with Pan
African focused organisations on a fundraising and cultural
awareness raising event. Inevitably, each organisation
will benefit from this union. We encourage all organisations
to undertake this ethos of organisation union with a high
level of ferocity.
Organisational support is not a one
way process. We practice what we preach. Please see below
for a list of ways in which African organisations can
and should support each other on a practical and moral
basis;
- Promote the events,
campaigns, protests, initiatives etc of other organisations
your website/ newsletter or by word of mouth.
- Keep each other informed about our organisations events
and initiatives so that we can try to attend each others
events.
- Do not hesitate to suggest ways in which other organisations
can positively move forward. It is better that we speak
directly to each other and be upfront with our views,
than discuss such matters in a closed setting where they
turn into meaningless chat.
- Share resources and information! Know where to get cheap
computers? Let other organisations know! Found a block
of recently built, relatively cheap office space? Share
the information!!
